Highly insulating thermoplastic blends comprising a styrenic copolymer for direct‐current power cable insulation

چکیده
The impact of the composition blends comprising low-density polyethylene (LDPE), isotactic polypropylene (PP) and a styrenic copolymer additive on thermomechanical properties as well direct-current (DC) electrical thermal conductivity is investigated. presence 5 weight percent (wt%) strongly reduces amount PP that needed to enhance storage modulus above melting temperature LDPE from 40 24 wt%. At same time, improves consistency resulting ternary blends. While both DC decrease with content, addition appears have little influence either property. Evidently, in combination small amounts not only allows reinforce at elevated temperatures but also functions an conductivity-reducing additive, which makes such thermoplastic formulations possible candidates for insulation high-voltage power cables.

A Methodology for the Assessment of Hvdc-xlpe Cable Insulation
The purpose of this work is to present and to discuss a methodology for the assessment of materials intended to HVDC-XLPE cables, particularly as regards the evaluation of the effects of material formulation on space charge accumulation within the insulation. Sample design, testing method and protocol and criteria used for the material evaluation are specifically considered. It will be shown th...
متن کاملLightning Impulse Ageing of Hv Cable Insulation
Lightning impulses can lead to accelerated ageing of extruded cables. Electrical behaviour of a dielectric material when experiencing a lightning impulse is different to that for DC or power frequency applied voltages. Pre-designed shaped HDPE material samples have been manufactured using a mould tool. The samples then have been electrically aged using an impulse generator. A real-time software...
متن کاملDensity Functional Theory for Block Copolymer Melts and Blends
We derive an expression for the free energy of the blends of block copolymers expressed as a functional of the density distribution of the monomer of each block. The expression is a generalization of the Flory-Huggins-de Gennes theory for homo polymer blends, and also a generalization of the Ohta-Kawasaki theory for the melts of diblock copolymers. The expression can be used for any blends of h...
متن کاملDiblock Copolymer / Homopolymer Blends: Derivation of a Density Functional Theory
Melts of diblock copolymer / homopolymer blends exhibit multiscale phase separation: (i) macrophase separation into homopolymerand copolymer-rich macrodomains followed by (ii) microphase separation into Aand B-rich microdomains within the copolymer-rich macrodomains (cf. [16, 17, 26]). Following our previous derivation in [6], we derive a density functional theory for blends. This theory has be...
متن کاملThree-dimensional microstructure characterisation of thermoplastic polyolefin blends.
The size, shape and distribution of different phases in thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) blends and composites are critical to the properties of the materials, but can be difficult to characterise. Here we report the combination of heavy metal staining and focused ion beam - scanning electron microscopy (FIB-SEM) to reveal the three-dimensional (3D) structure of an elastomer-modified poly(propyle...
